It's the Faculty where I got my Masters degree 18 yrs ago. I was excepted and after 3 years of attending the lessons and doing exams, I picked my theme "Pixel in tradition or tradition in pixel" based on square as main element in art compositions that I was making-whether it was the field of textiles or painting.

<span lang="EN-US" style="color: #26282a; A square as an element within a given geometric grid is taken as an analog model of a modern digital pixel. A pixel is the smallest distinguishable and resolvable area in an image (in most types of screens it is a square, but it can also be a rectangle), ie the sample of the original image and the smallest controllable picture element displayed on the screen. Accordingly, in the physical world, if the screen is replaced by the surface of the art composition, the smallest controlled element is a square.

<span lang="EN-US" style="color: #26282a; font-family: "Times New Roman";">The theoretical part of the doctoral project studies the connection and use of the traditional element - square and modern digital pixel, and explains their analog-digital relation, as well as their relationship through the terms traditional and modern. In order to establish an adequate connection between the traditional and the new, certain artworks and artists, who used geometric elements in composing and creating, are systematically analyzed using observation and comparative method. In addition to presenting and connecting theoretical material related to the topic, attention is also focused on resolving the relationship between intuition and rationality as factors in the creative act. The written part of the paper, in addition to the historical overview and the theoretical basis related to the topic, also contains a visual overview of the material, from sketches to finished compositions of the doctoral project.<span style="color: #26282a; font-family: "Times New Roman";">

<span lang="EN-US" style="color: #26282a; font-family: "Times New Roman";">By using the basic geometric element-square as the main artistic constructional element, the art installations are made as part of the practical work and exhibition. The shape of the square is the starting point for the development of compositions - installations through different materials in the making: painting canvas, alumina and textiles. These materials are not combined with each other, but separate compositions are created of each of these materials, and their spatial combination achieves a unique entity and interaction. Special attention is paid to the installation with an interactive character - a kind of spatial puzzle, which allows the observer to be an active participant in the exhibition, in creating a composition with the offered elements.

<span lang="EN-US" style="color: #26282a; font-family: "Times New Roman";">Katarina

<div style="color: #26282a; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">

Katarinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05154323191515539403noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6228984589013201653.post-36498640949091379412013-05-08T23:52:00.003-07:002022-03-15T02:29:57.677-07:00Wonderland illustrations

This image above is my entry for the Fabric8 contest presented by Spoonflower and Robert Kaufman Fabrics with a theme: Pen & Ink. The theme of the contest is modern fabric designs that evoke the style of pen & ink drawings colored with watercolor paints. I was very enthusiastic about this theme as I really love working in this medium and couldn't wait to start sketching and drawing.Between April 24th and May 1st, representatives from the sponsors will choose 100 designs for the first round of voting. Audiences around the world will then have a chance to vote for their favorite fabric designs on the Spoonflower site Those votes will determine the final eight designers, each of whom will be asked to develop a collection of eight fabrics based on their original designs by June 5, 2012.
Between June 7-13, the fabric-loving world will choose its favorite collection. The winner will be offered a contract from Robert Kaufman Fabrics along with $1000 advance against royalties and a Wacom professional digital drawing tablet.
Wonderland is an "never ending to inspire" theme for me. I particularly like the feeling to belong there, as the famous quote:"we are all mad here" is pretty much the way I breathe and live;)I think that an average "normal" person wouldn't be capable of living the way the artists and other creative workaholics with family aside - live. And that sort of <strike>positive</strike> insanity is the only way I can imagine living a life.

I have recently exibited some of my big charcoal drawings with this theme and I have previously created the whole series of different garment and accessories pieces and there is a cute clip made by my friend, showing it all...
Regarding the illustrations: I draw all the illustrations by hand, with inks and watercolors, scanned them and than I have manipulated them further in Photoshop. I firstly created the doily background and then layered the other parts. I'm really happy with how it turned out and can't wait to complete the whole collection of prints @ Spoonflower. So, here are a few details of my entry, as there are really many making this design so special and precious for me. I will post the other prints in the next round:)
